This is a very fine example of a Selmer Flute, the great professional flute designed by George Haynes for the Selmer Company before they began concentrating on the student flute market. Made somewhere in the early 1920s, this flute looks and plays much like the wonderful Wm. Haynes flutes of that period.

This instrument has been completely overhauled a few years ago and looks and plays very nicely. Personally I find the sculptured key cups of this flute make it a joy to hold and play. In addition to all silver construction, this flute features offset G, plateau keys and gold springs. Its sounding length is 603mm, standard for that period, so it can be played quite easily at A=440 and even 442.

Comes in a nice original case with its original protective sleeves and a pot of grease, all in great condition. These flutes are evidence that there was more than one fine maker of flutes in the U.

The embouchure cut is very nice and kind of square, which is typical of the Boehm style copied by American flute makers like Wm. Haynes and his brother George. This is a very rare and unique flute in superb condition. The serial number is engraved next to the tenon and shows #4565. It's all solid silver, including the keys and mechanisms.

The entire flute is all original and nothing has ever been altered or tampered. The C foot joint has a nice 2 roller mechanism which makes it very easy to slur from C to C# and back. There is an exclusive never seen double support for the thumb keys, which is very ingenious and makes this key much more stable and strong, never becoming loose. Why others never not copy this idea??

The pitch is a bit low as expected, but it can be played far well at 440 or even 442 without much effort. The flute was completely restored and received new pads and corks, and it's ready to play.

There are very minor scratches but you can hardly see on the pictures. Nothing major and it could be repaired if you care to.

No dents or flaws other than that. The item "Vintage Antique All Silver Selmer New York Flute from 1920's mint condition" is in sale since Sunday, November 17, 2019.
