Beautiful Antique (1926) King George V Era English Henry Mathews Crystal & Hallmarked Sterling Silver Vase (10/25cm, 600g). Absolutely superb handcrafted vase made by an English master glass maker and silversmith of the highest order. Needs to be seen and handled to be fully appreciated. It stands at approximately 10"/22cm tall and the base and top are just under 4"/9cm wide and weighs about 600g. George V was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910 until his death in 1936. Henry Matthews was a Birmingham based silversmith. His first mark was registered in 1894. His office was on Vittoria Street, Birmingham. A Street that is famous for being part of the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. Matthews is particularly remembered for his small silver items that required great attention to detail. Examples of those items are hair brushes, cigarette cases, frames, hat pins, card cases and buttons amongst other items. In 1930 Henry Matthews stopped production.
