Stylish Art Deco era Silver Gilt Enamel case - cigarette case of full Enamel if this case was intended for cards i think it was given to for a very high status person, use it for what ever you like. 4 panels of deep blue enamel, a matching Blue gem stone Snake eye on the thumb tab the stone hasn't been checked by a jeweller, most likely a gem glass can crack. There is fine engraving on every surface of silver available also under the Thumb tab. Thumb tab was a feature used by FABERGE.
Engine turned' silver, engraved patterns under the enamel, when the case is moved & catches the light it shows the pattern on the silver & the full depth of the enamel. FULL ENAMEL - the Top, Bottom & 2 Sides are enamelled.
Made by P H VOGEL in 1925 (Paul Vogel) a quality maker whos' work is well sought by collectors. The piece has 2 sets of stamps. 1 on the top front edge a Swiss/Austrian mark of 935 next to the English 925, and round import stamp English.
935 or 93.5% silver was the minimum silver standard allowed to be exported from Switzerland for All silver items incl' watch cases vestas etc (Swiss law in 1925) Stamped inside the case is JHV the makers mark, 925, &'k' for the year made / presented for assay 1925, & an import stamp stamps on both lid & case as is 2 pieces without the hinge. Added when assayed in England.
Was made in Switzerland & retailed in London. The Gilt Interior is Bright, Unworn & Excellent, the Gold radiates. The DAMAGE is of 4 issues - #1 a line of chipping to the enamel along the back of the lid, #2 & #3 - 2 minor shallow chips to enamel surface.
A tiny chip front right of the Gem stone. A small chip to the enamel on the bottom side, near back corner (hinge end) #4 - The lid stays open 1mm on the right front side when closed, pls see the photos. IT should be possible to repair the chipped line with a clear tinted resin (matching the blue colour) that will stop any further damage & make it stronger and useable without worry, you will be giving new life to a unique exquisite case. I'm not sure it can be repaired using enamel BUT an experienced resin Artist can fix this, & not a difficult repair to a skilled resin user. There is no one in my area who works in resin in Tasmania Australia. I have watched Resin artists online, they can mix & match any colour, Resin may be the ideal material for a successful repair to the case lid if you can find someone? Size - 7.5 cm x 5.8 cm, Inside 7cm - a 7cm Tally-Ho brand Roll your own cig' paper fits inside TH papers 7mm long. The case will hold up to 10 of this size cigarettes.
